Join Anna for an intimate open studio event showcasing the detailed, process-driven world of ceramic surface design. Throughout the day, visitors are invited to explore the studio, view works in progress and learn how intricate textures and patterns are created on clay forms. The event will feature live demonstrations where Anna will share her approach to carving and stippling, techniques adapted from her background in printmaking. Watch as she builds layered surfaces on leather-hard vessels, revealing how rhythm, repetition and negative space work together to shape her contemporary, classically influenced pieces.

silent sea studios brings together the ceramic and textile practices of Anna Williams and Rosalie Rose whose work is united by repetition, intricacies and a deep engagement with the natural world. Through stitching and stippling, methods grounded in patience, rhythm and accumulation, both artists build surfaces that echo the slow, intricate processes of repeat mark making on black clay and textiles.

  • Anna Williams is an arts educator and graphic designer whose creative practice began with printmaking in 2019 before evolving into ceramics in 2023. Anna's origin in printmaking informs the way she treats surface texture in her ceramic work. Using stippling as her primary technique, Anna builds delicate, detailed patterns across her classically inspired vessels. She likens these textured surfaces to the intricate, meandering marks created by moth larvae as they burrow through the bark of scribbly gum trees. Anna has partnered with local stores across Canberra to sell both her functional wares and prints since 2020 and is hoping to expand her practice to exhibit work more broadly across Canberra in 2026.

  • Rosalie Rose is a local textile artist known for her intricately stitched works that celebrate the rich flora and fauna of Australia. Each piece is built slowly through repetition of delicate marks that echo the textures and rhythms found in the natural environment. Rosalie's work speaks to patience, presence and the value of slow craft, and she has participated in several exhibitions since 2023. Rosalie also sells her botanically dyed textiles at local markets, alongside her smaller handstitched pieces.
