Imogen invites visitors to Side Seam Studio at her home in Canberra’s inner north. With traditional garment construction techniques such as draping, sewing, and smocking as a foundation, she has been working with repurposed textiles and mixed media to make sculptural forms for dressing the body or interior spaces. See materials, equipment, and processes, works in progress and finished work, and enjoy refreshments in the shady garden.

Imogen Keen is a Canberra-based designer and artist with a multidisciplinary practice in theatre, textiles, installation and film. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) from the Australian National University and has received several Canberra Critics Circle Awards and recognition from MEAA.
Since the early nineties she has designed for live performance including an extensive residency at the Street Theatre. Her production, set and costume design credits encompass theatre, contemporary dance, music videos and film projects. Alongside her design work, she maintains a studio practice exploring textiles, mixed media and handmaking with a focus on repurposing and zero-waste methods.
She is an experienced educator and mentor, teaching textile techniques, design representation and creative process at institutions including the University of Canberra and Canberra Girls Grammar School, and mentoring emerging artists for You Are Here’s Cahoots Lab. Her exhibition history includes installations, textile wares and collaborative performance-based works.
