Architectus, in partnership with SONA and EmAGN proposes Dissent: Opposition/Proposition, a conversation with young and emerging thought leaders, and guest speakers from the fields of architecture, urban design and their adjacent practices, to interrogate the role of sanctioned/unsanctioned design in the city.
What does it mean to dissent in design? And what happens when opposition becomes the establishment? Because in many ways, all design is an act of dissent, a reframing of what exists and a proposition for what could be, exploring what is allowed and disallowed, either by regulation or by convention, and the deliberate proposition of an alternate position.
Drawing on Canberra as its context, the conversation will explore how we move from opposition to actionable propositions for change, and how marginalised voices can shape the built environment. Creating new connections and discussions between emerging practitioners in the design fields and broader communities to promote critical thinking and design discourse.
