Sally Black is a Canberra-based artist creating works on paper that celebrate curiosity and joy. At the core of her practice is the belief that seeing the world from a different perspective helps us find delight in it. Working with water-based mediums across painting, printmaking and drawing, Sally explores unusual perspectives and playful distortions in both natural and built landscapes.
Her pen and watercolour pieces capture the charm of everyday scenes, while her paintings and prints embrace the loose, impressionistic flow of watercolour inks, resulting in semi-abstracted landscapes with no clear beginning or end.
Sally is a studio holder at Strathnairn Arts, situated alongside the Ginninderry Conservation Corridor and Murrumbidgee River. The surrounding landscape provides rich inspiration for her artwork, often appearing in her semi-abstracted depictions of the Canberra region.
