Bespoke Utopia presents Canberra artists whose practices embrace the principles of slow design that is grounded in care, material knowledge and long-term thinking. Linking global conversations around sustainable design with Canberra’s rich craft history, the exhibition invites audiences to consider how design shapes everyday life and how thoughtful creative practices can challenge fast, disposable production models.

Break // Make: UC x Miko is a multidisciplinary design collaboration between University of Canberra students and Miko Designs. Exploring Dissent, students challenge convention, blend tradition with technology and push the boundaries of craft, architecture and design to envision our sustainable and creative futures.

Discover Batten House, a new family home and studio in Curtin that responds beautifully to its parkland setting adjacent to the Yarralumla Creek open space network. Featuring a centralised courtyard with operable screens, reverse brick veneer construction and a rich textural palette of recycled hardwood, honed concrete and timber joinery.

Enter Canvas House, a restrained and beautifully considered home that draws from Scandinavian minimalism and French provincial architecture within Canberra's post war suburban fabric. Organised around a central outdoor living courtyard and achieving a 7.1 star energy rating, this fully electric home is a masterclass in passive solar design and sustainable living.

Step inside one of Canberra's most ambitious buildings, the CIT Woden Campus, home to the largest mass timber building by volume in Australia. Discover a profound Connection to Country narrative woven into every detail, from coloured terracotta bands expressing Valley, Bush, Mountain and Sky Country, to an oculus skylight through which Mullian tracks the sun. 

9 November 2026 | Canberra Institute of Technology, Woden

Welcome to the Woden Education First Youth Foyer at CIT Woden, part of the groundbreaking vertical campus by Gray Puksand, pairing mass timber design with a Connection to Country narrative.  Alongside safe housing and wraparound support, it gives young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness real pathways to education, training and independence.

Step inside Gugan Gulwan, a purpose-built facility designed with and for First Nations people. Created through deep community consultation by COX Architecture in collaboration with ck architecture, this uplifting space responds to Country and community, embedding First Nations culture into every detail, from its gathering spaces to its significant artwork integration.

6 + 7 November 2026 | Canberra Institute of Technology, Woden 

Fashion meets activism. Performance meets purpose. Dissent becomes a work of art.  Across one vibrant weekend, Clothing the Loop unfolds as a spectacular evening event and a full day of activities. Live dance, a runway parade, panel talks, clothes swaps, installations, tours and practical workshops celebrate the intersection of sustainable design, live performance and creative activism.  

5 – 25 November 2026  | Canberra Glassworks

Delightly revives endangered scientific glassblowing skills, transforming salvaged laboratory glass into plasma-illuminated vessels. Harriet Schwarzrock creates objects whose luminous behaviour shifts with viewer proximity, taking science out of the museum. Darkened, subtly interactive installations offer multi-sensory wonder, merging curiosity with playful public engagement in glass and light. 

1 – 28 November 2026 | Designcraft

Design Deviation celebrates the intentional mistake, showcasing furniture by Designcraft employees who have deliberately broken the rules of 'best practice' to discover new aesthetics in unusual materials and unconventional assembly. 

6 November 2026 | Royal Australian Mint

2026 marks the 60^th anniversary of Decimal Currency, designed by Australian industrial designer Stuart Devlin and minted here in Canberra at the Royal Australian Mint. To mark the year, the Mint presents an in-conversation event with coin designers Neve Foxcroft and Lydia Ashe.

A powerful act of dissent against the marginalisation of older voices, Elder Art is an exhibition of artworks by older members of the community. Through art and artist talks, the exhibition amplifies these voices, celebrating the richness that a long life and diverse experiences of history can bring to our shared community. 

7 November 2026 | Canberra Spinners and Weavers

Join Rebecca Mayo and Canberra Spinners and Weavers for a special collaborative event as part of Living City: People, Plants and Place, supported by artsACT and the Australian National University School of Art and Design. Experience the Plant Sensibilia Machine, a large-scale, hand-operated textile dyeing device that brings the creative process from the studio to the public realm.

In celebration of a maker whose vision continues to resonate as an enduring act of creative dissent, Robert Foster 10 Year Memorial Exhibition brings together 10 of Robert's most significant original works alongside new collaborative pieces by 10 artists whose practices were deeply shaped by his influence.

Dissenting the trend of mass manufactured consumer goods, Tuggeranong Arts Centre presents outstanding craft and design in three exhibitions that privilege slow craft to refute disposable consumerism in favour of intergenerational investment in quality crafted and designed objects.

In dissent against the decline of the Murray Cod, Tuggeranong Arts Centre invites you to join collaborative community weaving sessions, using natural fibre and recycled materials to complete a large scale textile sculpture. Hear First Nations stories and learn about the environmental conservation efforts surrounding this threatened and culturally significant species.

Wing It! Is a bold, hands-on children’s atelier where young ‘hatchlings’ explore a range of unexpected materials such as UV paint, odd car parts and splatter tools in a creative mess.
